Terms of service

Last updated October 30, 2026

Welcome to Chickpea. These terms govern your use of the Chickpea app and this website, run by Invictus Logic LLC (“we”, “us”, “our”). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app.

Please read section 14. If you live in the United States, it requires disputes to be resolved by individual arbitration rather than in court or in class actions, and explains how to opt out.

1. The service

Chickpea is a food and nutrition app for adults with PCOS (PMOS). It lets you check foods by search, barcode or photo and see a food score with its reasons and sources; log what you eat and see nutrient totals; get weekly meal plans from USDA recipes with a shopping list; keep a cycle and symptom log; set your own reminders; and create reports to share. Features may change over time.

2. Not medical advice

Chickpea gives general information about food and nutrition. It is not a medical device, it doesn’t provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and it doesn’t replace a doctor, a registered dietitian or another qualified professional.

  • Food scores rate a food’s overall nutrition using a published method. They don’t measure your body’s response and aren’t personal recommendations.
  • Photo recognition and other AI features produce estimates that can be wrong. Check them before you rely on them.
  • Food data can contain errors and products change. Always read the package label, especially for allergens. Allergy filters depend on data that may be incomplete.
  • The cycle log is for your own notes. It doesn’t predict periods or ovulation and is not contraception or a fertility tool.
  • Reminders are a convenience and can be delayed or missed. Follow your prescriber’s or pharmacist’s instructions for any medicine or supplement.

Talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian before you change your diet, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, take medication such as metformin or insulin, have diabetes or another medical condition, or have ever had an eating disorder. In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number. You decide what you eat, and you use the app’s information at your own risk. See also our medical disclaimer.

3. Eligibility and your account

You must be at least 18 years old, and an adult where you live, to use Chickpea. Each account is for one person. Give accurate information, keep access to your email and devices secure, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. You are responsible for activity under your account.

4. Subscriptions, trial and billing

  • Plans. Chickpea requires a subscription. In the United States the plans are yearly at $59.99 a year, which starts with a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers, and monthly at $9.99 a month, without a trial. Prices in other countries, and any taxes, are shown in the App Store before you buy.
  • Payment. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase or, for the yearly plan, when the free trial ends.
  • Automatic renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same length and price unless automatic renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends.
  • Free trial. Apple decides who is eligible for a trial. If you don’t cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the yearly subscription starts and you are charged. Any unused part of a free trial ends when you buy a subscription.
  • Canceling. Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose Chickpea and tap Cancel Subscription. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the app or your account doesn’t cancel your subscription.
  • Refunds. Apple handles all payments and refunds under its own policies. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can’t issue refunds ourselves, and nothing in these terms limits refund rights you have under the law of your country.
  • Restore purchases. You can restore an active subscription on a new device from the paywall in the app.
  • Price changes. If we change the price of a subscription, Apple will tell you in advance and, where required, ask for your agreement. You can cancel before the change takes effect.

5. Acceptable use

Use Chickpea for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. Don’t use it for anything unlawful; don’t try to reach parts of our systems that aren’t public, or interfere with, overload, decompile or disassemble the app; don’t scrape or copy our scores or content in bulk, except as the open-data licenses described on our food data page allow for the underlying data; and don’t misuse the AI features, for example by submitting other people’s photos or unlawful content.

6. Your content

You own what you put into the app: your logs, photos, notes and recipes. You give us a limited, non-exclusive license to host, store, process and display it only to provide and improve the service for you, as our privacy policy describes.

If you submit product information, for example photos of a product’s label for a product we don’t have, you give Invictus Logic LLC a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable and transferable license to use, reproduce, adapt, publish and distribute it, including in our product database shown to other users and in open food databases such as Open Food Facts under their licenses. Product information describes packaging and is not treated as personal content. Please don’t submit photos that show people or personal details.

If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without any obligation to you.

7. Food data, scores and recipes

Food data comes from USDA FoodData Central (public domain), Open Food Facts (© Open Food Facts contributors, under the Open Database License) and products submitted by app users; recipes come from USDA MyPlate Kitchen. Sources and licenses are listed on our sources page and our food data page. Data may be incomplete or wrong, and products change, so check the label.

Food scores are our own work, produced by the published method on our how we score page. They are a mechanical assessment of a food’s general nutritional quality, not a statement about whether any product is safe or right for you.

8. AI features

Photo recognition, meal descriptions, label reading, the chat and the weekly report’s summary use a third-party AI service (Anthropic’s Claude API, with Google’s Gemini API matching foods and as a backup). Their results are produced automatically, are not reviewed by health professionals, and can be inaccurate. Check and correct them before you save, and don’t use them to make medical decisions.

9. Intellectual property

The app and this website, including their design, text, graphics, software and food scores, belong to Invictus Logic LLC or our licensors. “Chickpea” and its logo are our trademarks. Open data stays under its own license. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as Apple’s usage rules allow. If you believe something in the app infringes your copyright, email us with the details.

10. Apple

If you got Chickpea from the App Store, Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies, and so does the following:

  • These terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the app and its content.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
  • If the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
  • We, not Apple, are responsible for any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and consumer protection claims.
  • If anyone claims that the app infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for dealing with that claim.
  • You confirm that you are not in a country subject to a US government embargo and are not on a US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • You must follow any third-party terms that apply when you use the app, such as your mobile data provider’s.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

11. Third-party services

The app relies on third-party services, including Supabase, Anthropic (Claude API), Google (Gemini API), RevenueCat, Apple, Expo and Sentry, as described in our privacy policy. We aren’t responsible for the availability or practices of these services or of websites we link to.

12. Ending your account

You can stop using Chickpea at any time and delete your account and data in the app (see how to delete your account). Remember to cancel your subscription in Apple settings as well. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the law. If we stop offering Chickpea altogether, we will give you reasonable notice.

13. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

THE APP AND THIS WEBSITE ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DON’T WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR SECURE, OR THAT ANY INFORMATION IN IT, INCLUDING NUTRITION DATA, FOOD SCORES, MEAL PLANS, RECIPES AND AI RESULTS, IS ACCURATE, COMPLETE, CURRENT OR SUITABLE FOR YOU.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, Invictus Logic LLC WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, AND OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM AND FIFTY US DOLLARS ($50). THIS APPLIES TO ALL CLAIMS, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE) OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING CLAIMS ARISING FROM FOOD, DIET OR HEALTH DECISIONS MADE WITH THE HELP OF THE APP.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

14. Disputes and arbitration

These terms are governed by the laws of the District of Columbia. Before starting any formal legal action, you agree to try to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days by emailing us.

Arbitration for users in the United States. If you live in the United States, you and Invictus Logic LLC agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or the app, including claims about information in the app, will be resolved by binding individual arbitration instead of in court, except that either of us may bring an individual claim in small claims court. The arbitration is administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, is governed by the Federal Arbitration Act, and may be held by video or phone. Fees are paid as those rules provide, and we won’t seek our legal fees from you unless your claim is found to be frivolous. If the AAA can’t administer the case, another provider agreed by both of us, or appointed by a court, will. If 25 or more similar claims are filed by or with the help of the same lawyers, the AAA’s rules for mass arbitrations apply and the claims may be heard in batches.

No class actions and no jury. To the extent the law allows, you and we bring claims only individually, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective or representative proceeding, and we both waive any right to a jury trial. If this waiver is found unenforceable for a claim, that claim will be decided by a court, not in arbitration, and the rest of this section still applies.

Opting out. You can opt out of arbitration within 30 days of first accepting these terms by emailing support@joinchickpea.com with the subject “Arbitration opt-out” and the email address of your account. Opting out doesn’t affect the rest of these terms.

To the extent the law allows, any claim must be brought within one year after it arose. Claims that are not arbitrated, and claims by people who live outside the United States, may be brought only in the state or federal courts in the District of Columbia, whose jurisdiction you accept. If the law of the country where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts, or more time to bring it, that right is not affected.

15. Changes and general terms

We may update these terms. We will post the new version here with a new date and, for material changes, tell you in the app before they take effect. If you keep using Chickpea after a change takes effect, the new terms apply; if you don’t agree, stop using the app and cancel your subscription.

These terms, together with our privacy policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about Chickpea. If a part of them is found unenforceable, it is limited or removed only as far as necessary and the rest stays in effect. If we don’t enforce a term straight away, we haven’t waived it. You may not transfer these terms; we may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. These terms are written in English, and the English version applies.
